A Word From Our Chair

by Harry Cartmill

UKCAP Chair

June 2009

Hard times? Credit crunch? Difficulty making ends meet? Then become a Westminster M.P.

Basic salary £64,000 P.A, a free London flat (including luxury fittings and furniture), various tax breaks and a gold plated pension.

The job advert to end all job adverts, a fantasy surely – alas no. The reality of what our democracy has become – a gravy train for some and virtually destitute for others. £64.00 if you’re jobless, £64,000 if you are an M.P. - some contrast!

As the gap between rich and poor widens ever further, and we struggle at the UK Coalition to find funds to continue to give a voice to those in poverty, my hope is we can turn the corner soon and restore some decency in society.
